If you’re searching for a fun, nostalgic way to spend an afternoon—or even a whole day—look no further than Hooligan’s Arcade in Alabaster, Alabama. As the largest retro-style arcade in the state, this hidden gem is packed with charm, personality, and over 100 classic games that will transport you straight back to your childhood.
One of our agents, Jason Shelby, recently had the chance to sit down with Ryan Sikes, owner of Hooligan’s Arcade, to learn more about the story behind this unique business and what makes it a must-visit in the Alabaster community.
“I’ve always been into arcade games ever since I was a kid,” Ryan shared. After spending years in the corporate world, he decided to follow his passion and open an arcade of his own. That leap of faith has turned into a thriving local business—and a go-to destination for gamers and families alike.
Hooligan’s features a rotating collection of 105 to 110 arcade games, with titles swapped out periodically to keep things fresh. Ryan hunts down these classics through Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and thanks to his solid reputation, often receives calls from past contacts offering up rare finds.
When asked what game he plays when the arcade’s quiet, Ryan didn’t hesitate: “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles—my all-time favorite.”
As for the rarest game in the building? That honor goes to "Irritating Maze," a unique title that made its way over from Japan and is nearly impossible to find in the U.S. “That one’s probably the rarest we have here,” Ryan said.
What truly sets Hooligan’s apart is its free-play model. For just $15 at the door, guests get a wristband that grants unlimited play all day long. You can come and go as you please—grab lunch, run errands, and return for more button-mashing fun without paying again.
The arcade also features a cozy bar in the back, making it a hit for date nights and evenings out. “Fridays and Saturday nights are covered up with date nights,” Ryan said. “But we’re still always family-friendly.”
Hooligan’s is more than an arcade—it’s a community hub where locals connect, families make memories, and old-school fun is just part of the experience. Whether you're a longtime Alabaster resident or just passing through, it’s definitely worth a visit.
